Private Yoga in Portland, OR
What to Expect
In a private session, the practice is built for one body. Yours.
There is no average pace to keep up with, no posture you have to muscle through because the rest of the class has moved on. Mindy designs the entire session around your body, your goals, and what you are working with on the day you arrive. Drawing from Iyengar alignment, restorative yoga, and somatic movement, she chooses every cue, every adjustment, and every posture for you, and adapts in real time as your body responds.
It is the most personalized way to practice with Mindy, and often the most transformative.
This is for you if
You are working with an injury, chronic pain, or a physical limitation, and need a practice adapted to your body
You are brand new to yoga and want to build a strong, safe foundation before joining a group
You are a dancer, athlete, or movement professional with specific goals that a general class cannot address
You have practiced for years and want focused, one-on-one attention to refine and deepen your practice
You simply prefer the privacy and focus of working alone with a teacher
What happens
Your session begins with a conversation. Mindy asks what brought you in, what your body is working with, what you hope to get out of the practice, and what has and has not worked for you before. From there, she builds the session in real time.
She might focus on alignment, on releasing a long-held pattern, on building strength and stability, or on teaching your body how to truly rest. Because it is just the two of you, she can stop, adjust, explain, and rework a posture until it actually serves you. You leave understanding your own body a little better than when you arrived, with practices you can carry into the rest of your life.
Why is it different
Most yoga teachers can guide you through a posture. Mindy understands the body underneath it.
Over 30 years of professional dance and more than 27 years as a Licensed Massage Therapist mean she does not just see the shape you are making, she sees how your body is organizing itself to make it, where it is compensating, and what it needs to find ease. That is knowledge most teachers simply do not have, and in a private session, all of it is focused entirely on you.
It is the convergence of a dancer's body intelligence, a clinician's training, and a teacher's patience, in a room built for one.
"Mindy is the kind of teacher who learns your body. Her deep listening results in care that is lasting."
- Meghann Wilkonson, Dancer
MINDY'S TRAINING AND LINEAGE
Mindy's yoga training spans three traditions and over five hundred hours of formal study:
200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Sellwood Yoga, in her own neighborhood.
300-hour Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training with Gabriel Halpern, one of the most rigorous alignment-based lineages in the world.
50-hour LOAY Teacher Training with Dharma Yoga.
She continues to study, to practice, and to learn alongside her students. Her yoga is not separate from her bodywork or her decades of dance; all of it is part of the same conversation about how a body is meant to move.

Movement is the first language. Everything else grew from it.
Mindy has been teaching yoga for over twenty years, drawing from 550+ hours of training, including 300 hours with Gabriel Halpern in the Iyengar tradition and 50 hours of Dharma Yoga. Her teaching is inseparable from her bodywork. 30+ years as a professional dancer and licensed massage therapist means she doesn't just cue a posture. She sees how your body organizes itself inside it, where it compensates, and what it needs to find ease. Every class is informed by a sprinkle of Vedic Astrology, the day's lunar transit, and the energetic shakti woven into the practice as a lens, not a lecture.
All yoga takes place in her intimate Sellwood studio with a maximum of four people. She offers weekly Restorative Yoga with Massage and Vedic Wisdom, small group Hatha, and one-on-one Focused Yoga and Movement sessions built entirely around your body. If you are looking for a teacher who sees you, adjusts to you, and works with your body rather than a room full of bodies, she would love to have you on the mat.
